Proportion is such a key factor in any outfit. Balance is key.
A skirt with a shorter hemline will look more chic with a long-sleeved top, a pair of super wide-leg trousers would always look better with a more fitted top, or at least a nipped in waistline, and so on. Something that’s all baggy won’t work, and I’d steer away from wearing anything too fitted from head-to-toe too.
Every now and again, I like to have a play of my own. It’s been no secret that a maxi, jumper dress is one of my favourite go-to pieces. They are so effortless, teamed with a pair of ankle boots and a biker jacket (depending on the style of the dress) or a maxi coat and you’re good to go.
That said I wanted to mix things up a little bit so on this occasion I decided to wear the dress over one of my favourite pairs of denim – I do love a dress over trousers, of course, if the proportion is right.
Noting all the hemlines and outfit pieces finish quite low, to bring about that balance to the top half of the outfit I added these super-sized, statement earrings (so on trend right now) to add some weight and interest to the top of the outfit.
The moral of the story is: always keep that balance in mind when styling any outfit.
